This dissertation project explores ways of productively analysing sex work as a form of paid labour. It examines the question of what insights can be gained when contemporary Scandinavian novels featuring sex workers as protagonists are read as working-class literature.For this research, the tradition of working-class literature studies, which is firmly established in Scandinavia, will be drawn upon and – where appropriate – supplemented by (queer) feminist and cultural studies research on sex work. The aim of this project is, on the one hand, to incorporate literary works with sex worker protagonists in the discourse of Scandinavian working-class literature and, on the other hand, to expand research on sexwork and sex workers by incorporating a literary studies perspective.
